UK Short Track racing enthusiasts who warm to the action will certainly be kept out of the cold this winter as a 24-rider meeting is staged at the luxurious Towerlands Centre in Briantree, Essex on the afternoon of Sunday December 27th from 1pm. The 1,000 seater arena is one of the countrys largest and most established showjumping venues with large car parks, licensed bar and cafe amongst the fan-friendly facilities on site.
The 24 riders on parade will take part in 8-rider races with heats, semis and a Grand Final, with support classes including Mini-Bikes and Juniors. Amongst those invited are Marco Belli from Italy, Chris Boone from the USA and Jan- Willam Janson from Switzerland to add an international dimension, plus participants from the world of Road Racing at the previous Christmas Short Track outdoor meetings such as former World Champion Neil Hodgson, TT legend John McGuiness plus Steve Plater and Guy Martin. Regular riders Ade Collins, Rusty Hodgson and promoter Peter Boast are scheduled to participate, with places left open for speedway stars Ricky Ashworth, Lee Complin, Paul Cooper and Simon Lambert.

We recently engaged Gareth Rogers and David Lucas, who were successful in fleshing out the site that brought Speedway back to Teesside, to assist me in locating suitable venues and Gareth introduced me to John Dickinson at Towerlands through a previous involvement at the venue. After a satisfactory demo session in which the binding surface suffered no problems and there was instant restoration - we were able to discuss the Christmas date with an option for more events and activities in the near future. This is such a well appointed venue with plenty of creature comforts that I am very excited about the new venture.
